The German hope

On the third day of the YONEX German Junior there were again exciting matches. Little by little, the favourites crystallised and were eliminated from the tournament. Up to and including the quarter finals, all the doubles matches were played except for the mixed. The singles will continue tomorrow morning. It was a hard-fought tournament, which was once again marked by the dominance of the Asian players.

It was particularly close in the German men’s doubles, where David Eckerlin and Simon Krax competed against two Chinese. Unfortunately, the German hopefuls missed out on a place in the semi-finals and were defeated in a close match. Before that, they had shown a strong performance against the Danes Melgaard/Vestergaard in the round of 16.

In the women’s doubles, top seeds Jacob/Pognante of France, currently the world number one, were also eliminated by two Chinese players. This means that only the Danes Vestergaard/Rokjaer are still in the running for Europe.

The quarter-finals will start tomorrow at 10.00 a.m. at the Sportforum, the semi-finals will follow at 3.00 p.m. Anyone who wants to experience top-class badminton is cordially invited to the Sportforum Berlin. Admission is 5 euros, reduced rate 3 euros.
